Vision of Future Outreach Ministry
After Service Fellowship
Once a year the Outreach Committee organizes a rummage sale at church to raise funds for our social ministry programs. This year it was held May 14, on a Saturday. It looked like this:

At 8:30 am, the parking lot was full and we were ready to start.

A large crowd filled Fellowship hall with a full rummage sale display.

The tables near the entrance to Fellowship Hall were full of collectables and houseware, the first for everyone to check out.

The clothing display of neatly piled tables were full.

Hanging clothes and shoe piles were larger this year.

The Famous Immanuel sale has lots of very good prices.

This year's sale had the largest gross income since starting it some 30 years ago, beating our record of last year. Thanks to all who stopped in to shop and visit Saturday, and to all Immanuel members who contributed and worked in setup, sales, and take-down.

Not only does this sale create income for our social ministry projects for the rest of the year, but it helps recycle a large amount of reusable supplies within the community.

When it was over, we packed up three truckloads and a full trailer brought over by the Outreach committee from Our Savior's Lutheran Church who will take the remaining stock to a mission church up in Guinn for distribution up there. That is just good stewardship that keeps on helping.
Here was the Rummage Sale crew 33 years ago.

The Famous Immanuel Rummage sale was started as a Luther League fund raising project 33 years ago. The clowns danced on the street curb to attract in the customers. The crew members were in Junior High and Senior High School at the time.
This Christmas Silver Bell Gift Tree

Over 25 Silver Bell Gifts were donated and given to both children and adults.
A Mitten Tree was adorned with children's gloves, mittens, scarves,or hats for young people in need. Distribution was made through schools and agencies.

As you have heard, the food pantry is in need of our help. This fall we collected about 600 pounds of food supplies for the local pantries. We hear that more is needed so if you can, drop off your contributions to the Salvation Army located on 5th Avenue South, three blocke west of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Please; no half used, or opened products. These are not accepted and must be discarded.
Essential School Start-up Kits
For the month of August, our Outreach effort focused on helping disadvantaged elementary students in the Escanaba School District have the essential tools needed for their class this year.
This project team was headed up by co-chairs Glen and Marlene Ehle, and the technical leader is Glenda Schoff, an elementary teacher in Escanaba.
The recipients are students in elementary classes who fail to show up at school with the required materials. Cause can be result of family poverty or poor parent reaction to school requirements. Our effort is to facilitate the disadvantaged students smooth access to have a positive classroom start-up experience. In spite of the school requirements each elementary teacher can expect 4 to 5 students will not have the materials on day one.

Lower Elementary Kit

Upper Elememtary Kit
We provided 50 kits to the schools. Eight members assisted in packing up the kits with the help of 12 Boy Scouts from Troup 411.
A Conversation about Outreach in the Future
An open May meeting of the Outreach committee was largely devoted to a conversation about what a future could be in Outreach Ministry at Immanuel. We discussed this in the context of the many economic changes that are happening now. This was a Brainstorming discussion so no decisions were made and we intend the conversation to continue to the fall when we will set out to work for planning the next five years of our outreach ministry service here. The documentation of the conversation is available here.
You can join the conversation too by giving us a written comment click here.
After service every Sunday, volunteers for the Hospitality team serve coffee, juice, and snacks to help us gather in the Fellowship Hall. Members and visitors alike are invited.

Take time for some good conversation and making some new connections.

Sign up sheets are available at the snack table if you want to volunteer as a part of the Hospitality team for a specific date. Or e-mail us here.
